Research Colloquium with Süheyla Schroeder

On Wednesday, May 31st, between 11:00 and 12:30, the second Research Colloquium of the Spring Semester 2023 will take place. Our speaker, Prof. Dr. Süheyla Schroeder, Professor of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, will present her recent research project. The title of this talk is "Craft Beer as a New Space of Creativity and Identity in Contemporary Berlin”.

The Research Colloquium will take place on campus at Salzufer 6, 10587 Berlin, in Studio 3.

About Prof. Dr. Süheyla Schroeder

Süheyla Schroeder studied Social Anthropology at Istanbul University. She then continued her studies in the field of cultural and media studies and was awarded an M.Litt. degree in Media and Culture from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. She received her Ph.D. in British Cultural Studies from the University of Warwick, England, in the area of popular culture and feminism.

Prof. Dr. Schroeder worked as British Cultural Studies Coordinator and Lecturer at the British Council Istanbul between 1992 and 1999. She then continued her academic career at Bahcesehir University until 2014. She has taught as a guest professor at Potsdam University and Freie Universität Berlin between 2008 and 2011.

Her main research interests are cultural identities, visual culture and representation, popular culture, globalization and consumer culture, urban ethnography, urban change and social class, cultural consumption, and craft brewing.
