Composing Compost - Exhibition and Presentation

Other

26/06/2025

This Friday, June 27th at 2pm, the students and researchers of “Composing Compost. Insect Cities for Urban Metabolism” will present the final results of their research project at Floating University.

The project builds on Floating University’s collaboration with soil activist and composter Martina Kolarek. Together, they are planning a new compartmental pavilion: The Bacteriothèque. This new structure is part of a broader vision to incorporate composting directly into the campus architecture.

Urban composting plays a key role in fostering biodiversity and supporting gardening in soil-depleted environments like Tempelhof Airport. With this in mind, students of architecture and design were invited to develop modular, accessible, and reversible composting systems to be integrated into the existing façade of the Floating campus.

The most promising designs may be considered for the future reconstruction of the campus. These results—both conceptual and practical—will be shared as part of an open lecture and exhibition, entirely coordinated by the students themselves.

Join us on Friday at 2pm at Floating University to explore their work and the potential of compost architecture.
