Interior Design Excursion to Hotel Oderberger

Other

27/04/2017

On April 27th, the students from the 4th semester Interior Design program visited the Hotel Oderberger and were guided through the building by Katja Liebau from GLS Sprachen Zentrum. The excursion took place within the framework of the Idea Factory Project that students are working on. As their project is a monument preserved building in a very central part of the city, the excursion served the purpose of understanding the restoration concept of a public building, which is very much in the common memory of Berliners.

Located in Prenzlauer Berg, the former public bath was designed in 1898 by the German architect Ludwig Hoffman and has been sensitively renovated by the GLS Sprachen Zentrum Berlin from 2012 up to 2016. It reopened as Hotel Oderberger in 2016. The historical bath, besides its new function as a hotel with conference rooms, has regained its function as a public swimming pool. The floor of the swimming pool can be raised, making it possible to use the space as an event location. This enables that the building retains its history from all the phases of its existence, making it one of the most inspiring renovation projects of the last years in Berlin.
