BI students at the Biennale di Venezia 2021

Our BA Architecture and Interior Architecture students took a study trip to Venice, Italy last month, where they visited the Biennale Architettura 2021 and had the opportunity to explore the city and its historical and architectural sites.

An important part of the study trip was a workshop on the theme of this year's Biennale exhibition. During this workshop, more than 100 students from Berlin International and other universities from Dortmund, Coburg and Mannheim worked on the question: How will we live together?

The question is not new, however; back in 2019, Biennale Architettura curator Hashim Sarkis asked participating architects to imagine spaces where we can live together generously. Since then, his theme, "How will we live together?" has become even more relevant.

In mixed groups, BI students and their teammates from other German universities worked on ideas along the overarching question about the future of living together through the creation of a short film.

The great honor for our students was the presentation of their workshop results in the German Pavilion during the Biennale exhibition.

The format of this field trip with an integrated workshop is an ongoing initiative by Prof. Karsten Huneck who led the BI students together with the acting Dean Prof. Javier Martin.
