On June 10, as part of the Building and Planning Law course offered by the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Berlin International University, our students visited EDGE Südkreuz Berlin — one of the most sustainable and energy-efficient office buildings in the city.
We were fortunate to be guided by Sergei Tchoban, the building’s architect, who shared first-hand insights into the design and planning process of this pioneering project.
During the tour, we explored not only the architectural and technological features of the building but also the regulatory and legal challenges involved in its development.
We discussed how to design a highly energy-efficient building while complying with planning and construction standards — a valuable real-world case for the students.
The excursion was a great opportunity to connect legal frameworks with sustainable design in practice and to engage with one of Berlin’s most innovative buildings.
