The international workshop Ornament and Distortion, done in collaboration between the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain and BAU International Berlin took place in Valencia from July 10 to 13.
Lead by Prof. Javier Martin (BAU IB) and Dr. Daniel Martin (UPV), 23 students from both universities explored how superficial applications using specific graphic techniques can modify the three-dimensional perception of space.
By interweaving ancient geometrical techniques of projection- anamorphosis, trompe l’oeil and skiagraphia- and powerful new digital tools for parametric design and manufacturing, the students developed new concepts for ornamentation linked to a strong phenomenological conception of space.
