As of October 2022, the Heads of Programs at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences are as follows.

Karsten Huneck was born in Chile and grew up in Germany, where he also graduated with a Diploma in Architecture from the Technische Universität in Darmstadt. He is a qualified architect and joiner. Before joining BI as a Professor of Architecture and Construction and the Head of the BA Architecture program, Prof. Huneck was a Senior Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture and an Associate Professor at the ESA, Ecole Special d’Architecture in Paris. He has also been invited to lecture internationally, including at the Royal Academy of Art in London, the Museum for Modern Art in Warsaw, the British Council in Moscow, the Goethe Institute in New York City, and the European Cultural Capital Guimarães.

Katrin Brünjes was born in Bremen. She studied architecture at the Bauhaus-University Weimar (Diploma, 1999) and the ETSA Valladolid in Spain (1994–95). After gaining experience in architecture and interior architecture at an international level (David Chipperfield Architects, London, 2006–2009; Kollhoff Architekten, Berlin & Rotterdam, 2000–2005), she now runs her own studio Brünjes Tyrra Architekten as a partner in Berlin. Prof. Brünjes teaches design projects and research seminars primarily on the BA and MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design programs.

Alexander Tibus studied Communication Design at Hochschule Mannheim, Germany, and HTW Berlin University of Applied Sciences, where he graduated as a Diplom-Designer in 2005. Having gained a range of professional experiences in Germany and the Netherlands, he set up his Berlin-based studio Alexander Tibus Konzept+Design in 2005, specializing in visual identity design and typography. His work has repeatedly been published, presented, exhibited, and awarded in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. In 2015, he was appointed Professor of Communication Design at Berlin International and became Head of the BA Graphic Design and Visual Communication program in 2016. Since then, Prof. Tibus has shaped the study program and established a range of co-operations with external partners.

Javier Martín was born in Valencia, Spain. He studied architecture (UP Valencia, 2009) and holds a Master's in Design Studies in the field of architectural technology from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (Cambridge, MA, USA, 2014), where he also was a teaching assistant and a research assistant at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Materials. After working for Zvi Hecker in Berlin, he developed his own professional practice individually and in collaboration with colleagues. His work has been internationally awarded, published, and exhibited extensively – including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He has been the Head of the BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program since 2016 and teaches courses related to construction and materials and also design projects.

Amara Goodwin was born in Toronto. She obtained undergraduate degrees in fine arts and art history before moving to Berlin, where she became one of the first graduates of the Interior Architecture/Interior Design program at Berlin International. After working for select interior architecture offices in Berlin, she went on to complete her post-graduate studies in Belgium, specializing in adaptive reuse. Amara brings a multidisciplinary body of knowledge to interior architecture in her own professional practice, collaborating internationally on projects in Germany, Belgium, Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. She teaches courses in the history and theory of architecture and design as well as research seminars and design projects in the B.A. and M.A. Interior Architecture/Interior Design programs.

Jennifer Hynes earned a Ph.D. in Organisational Psychology/Behaviour from Trinity College Dublin, for which she was awarded a studentship. In her Ph.D. thesis, she investigated workaholism from a transdisciplinary multilevel perspective. Jenny also holds a Master of Education, a Master of International Economics, a Bachelor of Business Studies, and a Cambridge Certificate in teaching English to non-native speakers (CELTA). Her research interests lie in workplace well-being, which entails motivation, stress, burnout, work engagement, and effective ways to promote positive work psychology. Jenny designs her courses with enjoyment and employability in mind.

Hasan Koç, born in 1985 in Iskenderun, Turkey, received a double degree from FH Reutlingen and Yeditepe University Istanbul and a Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) in Business Information Systems from Rostock University. He has professional experience in IT-Management and publications in Enterprise Modeling, Method Engineering, Enterprise Architecture Management, Capability Management, and Digital Service Innovation. Current research topics of Dr. Koç include the fields of Platform Economies, Business Model Transformation, and Data Science. In private, Koç loves to spend time with his family. He is a passionate musician and has released three albums and one single with his bands as a guitar player.

Erick Behar-Villegas was born in Bogotá in 1986, after which he was raised between the United States and Colombia. Erick studied Economics and Social Sciences at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany. He then did his master's studies in Augsburg (M.Sc. in German French Management) and in Rennes, France (Master in International Management). He earned his Ph.D., Magna Cum Laude, at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität München in applied cyber anthropology, studying applicant attraction and organizations from an interdisciplinary perspective. His teaching experience covers the areas of macroeconomics, public policy, entrepreneurship, and web metrics at institutions such as CESA Business School, Central and Externado universities in Colombia, and Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico.
