The 52m high civic structure MAE WEST in Effnerplatz in München, suggests the hour-glass figure of its late namesake, the voluptuous and free-spirited American movie siren of the 1930s. MAE WEST is an unique carbon fiber architecture and mandrel-less filament winding process make “impossible” rotational paraboloid sculpture possible in carbon composites. BAU IB Product design students visited the tower to get the scale of structure and to feel the future potential of the newest generation of carbon pipes build by CGB filament winding system.
