SUMMER RETREAT

Other

17/07/2025

The Scharfe Lanke is a bay of the River Havel. Located in the west of Berlin, the area is a popular destination for Berliners and tourists alike, offering the chance to go for a walk, swim or play sports, or simply unwind with a view of the water – the perfect summer retreat.

The Gothia Sailing Association (Segler Club Gothia e.V./SCG) is also located here. The current clubhouse was built in the 1960s and extended in the 1990s. Given the age and condition of the building, the Gothia Sailing Association is considering how to develop the clubhouse sustainably. Measures to improve energy efficiency are being examined. At the same time, questions about the future of the clubhouse and site are being asked.

During the spring term 2025, the BI collaborated with the Gothia Sailing Association (SCG) to develop strategies for transforming the existing site and clubhouse. Based on specific topics, students from architecture and interior architecture/interior design conducted thorough research into the current situation of the site and its surroundings. This research formed the basis for developing the concept, programme and strategy for the transformation. These strategies aimed to create interesting new functional and spatial qualities, increase the lifespan of the existing building, and achieve the maximum quality, economy, and ecology with the minimum effort.

The developed proposals were presented to club members at a festive event held at the club's premises at Scharfe Lanke on 28 June 2025.
