In July 2020 I successfully completed the International Master of Interior Architectural Design
at the Hochschule für Technik in Stuttgart. This program operates with a worldwide network of cooperating universities in India, Turkey, USA and Switzerland, who award a joint qualification.
Currently I am looking for a job as an AiP (Archi-tekt im Praktikum) with the aim of joining the architect’s chamber within 2 years.
Due to the current world pandemic, the daily routine of looking and applying for jobs is extremely frustrating. I have spoken to many others in the same situation. Many talented, young creatives are just not able to find work at the moment. Personally, I am trying to make the most of this time by taking part in online summits and lectures that are free and working on smaller projects, consulting private clients.
It has always been a challenge to work on group projects (especially internationally), as communication and design thinking can be very different depending on individual preferences, but also regarding to cultural and educational backgrounds. However difficult, I have experienced first-hand, that these projects turn out to be particularly interesting and have been rewarding in that we have learned from each other and become open to new ways of approaching a design process. Completing my Masters degree online has also been very challenging. From working in a creative studio space with other students and receiving regular feedback on your work, to sitting at home isolated was a major adjustment.
At the beginning of my studies, I definitely underestimated the work that goes into developing a well-rounded concept, still leaving enough time to elaborate these first ideas and essentially present a finished design that works technically and is also visually appealing. Time management is something I learned to dominate during my studies at BI and this has helped me during my Master’s degree, where the time you have and what is expected of you is definitely more demanding. Apart from that, BI promotes the idea of interdisciplinary design processes, which I believe is essential.
I have always been interested in retail- and hospitality design, however, this year a lot has changed. I believe that the future of the workplace, and generally how and where we work will see a major shift in the next years and I would therefore love to work on creative solutions in this field.
Interior design is not about choosing sofa cushions and curtains, it is much more than that and is fundamental to our physical health and mental well-being in spaces. I advise you to think big and keep an open mind regarding what projects you expect to work on in the future as anything can happen, and you’ll need to go with the flow. Work together with graphic designers, communication designers, and product designers to broaden your horizon.
